Hi there, it’s Hillarie! This is your favorite weekly newsletter to inspire conversations that matter. Keep reading for a few worthy ideas to get your week started.
Hey friend! Every other Monday, I am going to share some brief things I found worthy of my time and that I think you may enjoy, too. This week, I have been reflecting about the past year and planning for the year ahead, and the list this week reflects that perspective. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
A playlist worthy of your ears:
2021 BGCL Playlist
Journey with me through all of the moods of 2021 in twelve fantastic songs. Bask in the sadness, the grief, the joy, and the gratitude of the last year. These songs dive into big feelings: the uncertainty of life; the pain of insecurity; the satisfaction of growth; and the bliss of being in the moment.
Why you’ll love this playlist: These songs were painstakingly selected and approved by two music connoisseurs: my husband and his brother. They are both students of hip-hop and a deep wells of musical knowledge. The playlist will take you on a journey through R&B, lo-fi, afro-beat, and indie with a wide range of artists.
Sit back and enjoy the playlist from front to back!
A book worthy of a spot on your shelf:
Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Tawwab
Lbh, setting boundaries is easier said than done. What are they exactly? How do boundaries help? And how do you set boundaries? This book helped me answer these questions and provided relevant scripts to use with family, friends, colleagues, and more.
In my experience, learning to set boundaries takes time and I keep coming back to this book. This book helped me to push through the discomfort of establishing boundaries. I’m no boundaries expert myself, but this has helped give me language and tools to advocate for myself in new ways. It’s practical and easy to follow.
Highly recommended if you struggle with communicating boundaries!
A reflection worthy your brain power:
Year Compass Annual Reflection
It’s the third year I am completing this workbook, and it has become a ritual of mine after a friend recommended it to me. It has helped me to bring closure to the past 12 months and build excitement for the future. It forces me to be specific and intentional about how I want to spend my time. It provides me a snapshot of my life that I can revisit in years to come.
Looking back at my reflections from past years, my struggles and goals stand out to me most. I’m amazed to read the things that weighed me down then and compare to where I am at now. It’s heartening to see that I made meaningful progress on big, courageous goals, even if I didn’t fully complete them.
