Hi friends,
It has been an unusually cold few weeks here in the Pacific Northwest. Cooler temperatures mean a slower start to the garden this year, and I am trying not to let it get me down. My short escape to the warmth of southern California was a bright spot that was full of love and joy. I spent the week with two of my dearest friends who are small-town gals, just like me.
One is my life-long friend, Mikayla, who I met in 2nd grade at our elementary school in South Dakota. We have been friends through all these years, and she has always created space for myself and others to be our authentic selves. She introduced me to her friend, Sarah: a woman who has never met a stranger. I was instantly drawn to her open heart, her generous spirit, and her thick southern accent— she’s from small-town Alabama.
The two of them are now Episcopalian priests after graduating from Yale Divinity school. They are wicked smart, down to earth, and some of the realest people I have ever met. Suffice to say, we had a lot to catch up on after two years away and many life changes—moving, mothering, and marriage. I am still processing our trip and thinking about next moves in my life and career. In the meantime, let’s sing about love.

While I was away, my husband (a low-key producer and dj) curated a beautiful playlist for me—it was also my mother’s day gift. It is all about love, which is still the most powerful force on earth. Consider this intermission music to pause and remember the awesome power of love and kindness. Take a listen and tell me what songs resonate for you.
I love the sweetness of these reflections. Love. Deep connection and music, healing meditations worth remembering. Thanks 🧡
