We went without power for most of the day yesterday. I can't lie: it's fun to dip into survival mode now and then. Especially when I know it is just going to be for half a day or so. We pull out the lanterns, put a pot of water on the stove, and text our neighbors to check in on them. If I have to go camping, this is how I prefer to do it. 🛌🏾
Our nightly routine moved to the living room where we gathered around the fire and read books with our oldest kiddo. No distractions, just the three of us like old times. It was all good until we had to explain that no power = no Netflix. A heartbreaking concept for a digital native.
We shuffled the toddler off to bed and stayed up by the fire -- writing, talking, sipping tea. We both use writing to tell stories and clarify ideas. We work on our respective projects and share thoughts with each other from time to time. It's so fun to dream together. It really is the simple things that make our days meaningful.
After the storm passed, the sky opened up and everything stood still. The moon was absolutely brilliant, and I could see almost every star in the sky. The water that was cresting over 2-story homes across the channel was a sheet of glass. A perfect country night, and the reason I love it here.
